More Strikes!

I just heard that the teachers at my school are on strike until THURSDAY! That means that I will be teaching for only 4 hours this week. WTF!!!!

This weekend was super fun. Viña and Valpo are the most chill places I have every been. Especially because it is off season here so there aren´t many tourists. Friday I hung out with my new friend that I met in the internet cafe, Soya. We walked the beach and ate lunch at a sweet vegetarian place. Then when my friends from the program arrived we met them at the bus station and took them back to the vegetarian place to eat dinner. After dinner we went to a cuban dancing club in Valpo called Aché Cubano. It was so fun because I finally got a little salsa dancing in!

Saturday we mozied around a bit and then took an asensor (elevator) up to get a good view of the cities and oceans in the area. We had already eaten a cheap lunch so we decided to splurge on a glass of wine at a nice resaurant with a sweet view....however, after we were seated they told us that it was for lunch only. They let us order dessert so I had a glass of wine and creme brule high atop the bluff with a fabulous view of the ocean! Num! I feel like all I am eating here is bread and sugar. I get no vegatables unless I purposfully order them at a resaurant. (All my host mother doesn´t cook so all she feeds me is bread, cheese and avacado.) Then we went to the mall in Viña because my friends needed some things. After that I didn´t feel well (not much sleep between the 8 hr bus ride to Viña and the late night out dancing) so I went to bed!

Sunday we looked for a new hotel because the hotel we were staying at decided they didn´t want to take out our trash and we think that they didn´t clean the sheets. Plus the windows didn´t completely shut so at night it got very very cold! During the winter days here in Viña it can get up to 65 degrees here but at night it gets chilly! We walked along the beach and had a nice Asian lunch. I ate ceviche because I have been deprived of fish here in Chile so I wanted to get my share. Ceviche just isn´t as good in the winter as it was in my beatiful tropic Nicaragua.

We are leaving tomorrow afternoon but as I previously stated I don´t have class until Thursday (and only 4 hours at that!) I talked to my parents today and they along with my friends here helped me realize how unhealthy this situation is with my living with a widowing grandmother who doesn´t feed me vegetables and not having social contact with people my age while I´m in Coronel. I LOVE the traveling and meeting new people on the weekends and I am starting to really like the teaching when I am not working with my cooperating teacher (we have completely opposite styles of teaching) so it is really hard for me to leave. I decided that I will decided next Monday after my trip to a skiing and spa resort in the mountains of Chile. Life is tough, I tell you! Just kidding :)
