2 days until participants arrive!

The participants are coming on Thursday...on flights from all the the US. We'll be picking them up from 10am till 4pm from the airport.
We've been trying to get stuff done. We've created a kitchen, 2 showers, 22 beds, made tons of "don't drink the water signs" etc. I've cleaned so much it's not even funny. We still need to make a few more beds, buy supplies and food, and make the final details. We're on halt because there is no money and no car (the battery broke.)
It will all get done.
Peace out.

3rd day of work down...lots more to go!

We are staying in a house the Ramos family rented across the street from theirs. Today they moved out of their upstairs so that we can move the girls in when the participants get here in a week. We have 10 days to get ready but we really need the time. Nothing was set up when we got here. No running water, no beds, no kitchen. Imagine! We´ve finally got the kitchen supplies but nowhere to put them. We are making shelves tomorrow. Water is finally running and they are working on a generator so that it won´t go out when the electricity goes out (all the time!) We were finally able to take a shower last night which felt amazing! I haven´t stopped sweating. Sounds horrible but you know how much I love it! It did take some getting used to this time because I was expecting more to be set up. I complained a little. Still complain when we have to clean every kitchen utincil becasue they were in dingy storage unit. Alberto and his right hand man, Juan de Dios are cooking us amazing dominican meals.
Last night we went out for a beer. I was imaging a U.S. bar but should have know better. It was outdoors...latin music blasting...dancing! Amazing!
My teammates are great. Everyone has traveled a lot so we have a lot to talk about! Everyone is 25 except for JBob who is 32. JBob is a high school Spanish teacher from Montana. He is super sweet...would do anything for anyone. Adrianne is an outdoor Ed teacher from California who reminds me of Carolyn Hejny Stang. Meag is an outgoing geek (that is how she would describe herself) obsessed with the Spanish language. She lived in Spain for 2 years and this is her first time in Latin America. It´s a bit of a shock for her but she is doing really well! Dave is very goofy and great with the kiddos because he comes from a family of 11.
Lot´s of dominicanos around are helping a ton with the work. The high school participants are going to love them!
Peace!
